Interview with Alan Fletcher

A couple of weeks back, I had the pleasure of interviewing Australian star Alan Fletcher, best known for his portrayal of Karl Kennedy in Neighbours.

1) If you weren't an actor what would you be now?
A. My University studies were centered around Philosophy and History and that is where I imagine I would have headed.

2) What made you audition for Karl?
A. My agent rang and said Neighbours wanted to see me for a possible role and, as they say in the Classics, never let a chance go by!

3) You have been in Neighbours for quite a while, have you ever wanted of a change?
A. Not really because my life is full of so many things. I play Rock n Roll, I have performed in 5 pantos in the Uk, I have done three musicals in Australia, I am a passionate photographer. Life is great!

4) Who is the biggest joker on set?
A. Every cast member is a joker. The set is a fun environment. In order to get through the day we all clown around a lot.

5) Who is your favorite person to work with?
A. Well, of course, Jackie Woodburne who plays Susan. We have been friends for 30 years. She is a remarkable actress and I doubt i would have done 18 years on neighbours if I wasn't working with her every day.

6) What was your first acting job?
A. I played the Soldier in Stravinsky's "The Soldier's Tale".

7) What has been your favorite acting role so far?
A. Playing a young military school graduate who went on to fight in Vietnam and lose both his legs and, eventually, his life through suicide. It was a role in an Australian mini-series called Sword of Honour

8) What was your experience on Neighbours like?
A. Simply the best. hard work, but loads of fun, creatively interesting every day.

9) What was the Neighbours cast like?
A. Like a family.

10) If you could live in any country, which one would it be and why?
A. I would continue to live in Australia. We have such a relaxed friendly living environment that is cultural and sporty with great weather!

11) Do you have any tips for an aspiring actor?
A. Learn how to listen. Do not ACT learn to REACT.

12) Are you anything like Karl? If so in what ways?
A. We share the same hair and that is it.

13) What has been your favorite Neighbours story line?
A. My affair with Sarah Beaumont.

14) Karl and Susan have been together and broken up many times over the years, do you think they will ever get together?
A. They have got back together....never to part

15) Toadie and Sonya's wedding will be airing here in England this week, can you give us any spoilers?
A. No, except you expect a BIG BANG!!!!!
